Sweetgrass is used in prayer, smudging and purifying ceremonies.
The grass is dried, braided and then traditionally it is  burned at the beginning of a prayer or ceremony to attract positive energies.
 
Sweetgrass has many ceremonial uses amongst the Native American people, is often used in conjunction with sage.
